What is the Pelvic Floor?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that consist of 3 layers spanning from you pubic bone to your tail bone, forming a supportive hammock structure between your 2 sit bones.
These muscles work to:
Hold in urine or feces
Relax to fully empty your bladder or bowels
Provide sexual satisfaction
Support your internal organs
Provide a base of stability for your hips, legs, and rib cage
Help pump blood in and out of your pelvis
How do I know I have pelvic floor dysfunction?
Common signs and symptoms consist of:
Urinary leakage (dribbling or peeing yourself)
Urinary urgency and frequency (feeling like you need to pee greater than every 2 hours)
Urinary retention (difficulty emptying your bladder)
Bowel leakage (loosing your stool)
Constipation (difficulty pooping)
Pain with sex
Pain with orgasm
Difficulty with orgasm
Pelvic pain (in your pubic bone, vagina, anus, or tailbone)
Chronic painful periods
Pregnancy (as it places constant and growing strain on your abdomen and pelvic floor muscles)
After child birth whether that’s vaginal or cesarean
