Anya’s Credentials and Background
I went into physical therapy school to get my Doctorate at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona with a passion for helping others and treating under-served populations. I grew up in a family with a father who is an OBGYN in a small rural agriculture town and saw the struggles that many women and people in a small town come across when it comes to inaccessible and necessary care. Due to this, I took my first pelvic floor course to specialize while I was a student in my doctorate program and found a passion for helping women overcome the common, but problematic issues that pelvic floor dysfunction can cause.
During my 3rd year of physical therapy school, I was a clinical student at Kapiolani Women’s Center on Oahu where I learned to treat pelvic floor dysfunction and patients post breast cancer and mastectomy. After graduation I got my first job as a pelvic floor physical therapists in a different rural farming town in California where I was 1 of only 2 pelvic floor therapists treating throughout my whole county.
In this job, I received more coursework to specialize and treat bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, the female athlete, military women and men, men struggling with pelvic pain/ erectile issues/ bowel and bladder problems, birth preparation, and people moving through pregnancy aches and pains, and post-partum recovery. I am well versed in patients between the ages of 16 years old to over 80 years old with pelvic floor dysfunction. My passion is working with active people in all stages of their life dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction in order keep up with the physical demands that life requires, while promoting healthy aging and improving happiness and confidence.
Anya’s Approach
I myself have dealt with pelvic floor issues, specifically pelvic pain and urinary urgency. I know what it’s like to feel vulnerable, fearful, and unheard by medical professionals. I made it my mission to ensure all people feel like the leader of their care team, while I take a supportive and guiding role where it’s needed.
Feel Heard
The basic medical model does not allow providers to hear their clients and listen to their story. YOU hired me. I am here for YOU. I take the time to listen, not rush you to tell your story, and meet you where your comfort level is when treating such a vulnerable region.
Have Time
One on one physical therapy is almost unheard of now a days. NOT HERE. I strive to help create focused rehab and coaching programs guided towards your goals, your body, and where you are at in your recovery. We will have the time to progress your programs, for you to ask questions, and to veer as needed with the punches that life sometimes gives.
